Hyderabad Teachers Face Notices Over Missed FRS Attendance

The Hyderabad district administration has issued show cause notices to 183 government-school teachers for allegedly remaining absent without prior information and failing to register their attendance through the facial recognition-based attendance system (FRS).

The notices were issued following instructions from Hyderabad district Collector Priyanka Ala, according to District Education Officer Yadaiah. The action followed surprise inspections conducted by the Collector at government schools in the Old City, Secunderabad, Koti, Jubilee Hills, Khairatabad and other areas of Hyderabad.

During the inspections, officials examined attendance records and the FRS system used by teachers to register their presence. The administration found that 183 teachers had been absent without registering their attendance through FRS on time and without providing prior information, the DEO said in a statement.

The notices are part of disciplinary action against the teachers. Yadaiah said a second instance of similar conduct could result in suspension. The administration has also ordered special daily monitoring to ensure that teachers register their attendance through FRS within the prescribed time at every government school.

Responsibility for the monitoring process has been assigned to the concerned Mandal Education Officers (MEOs). They have been directed to ensure that teachers regularly use the FRS system and that the attendance process remains available in schools.

Facial recognition attendance systems are intended to create a digital record of staff presence and reduce dependence on manual registers. In this case, the district administration is using the records alongside surprise inspections to enforce attendance requirements in government schools. The action places responsibility on both teachers to register their attendance and education officials to monitor compliance at the school level.

The DEO said the administration was taking the steps to maintain educational standards and discipline in government schools. He warned that teachers must register their attendance through FRS on time and follow the prescribed rules, adding that strict action would be taken if the requirements were violated.

The district administration’s next step is daily monitoring by the MEOs, while the 183 teachers are required to respond to the show cause notices issued against them.
