Hyderabad Metro Rail will extend train services until 1:00 AM on September 26 to support travel during Ganesh immersion celebrations across the city, allowing devotees and other commuters to return after late-night processions.
According to the announcement reported by Deccan Chronicle, the extended operations will begin on September 25. The last trains from all terminal stations will depart at 1:00 AM on September 26, providing an additional late-night travel window during the major immersion event.
The decision is intended to facilitate smoother movement for people taking part in Ganesh immersion activities. The celebrations are expected to generate increased movement across Hyderabad as devotees travel to and from processions and immersion locations.
For commuters, the extended metro schedule provides an alternative to road travel during a period when traffic volumes and parking demand can increase around procession routes. The announcement said the service extension would help devotees avoid traffic congestion and parking difficulties associated with the event.
The operational change is limited to the announced late-night extension. Hyderabad Metro Rail has specified that the last trains from all terminal stations will leave at 1:00 AM on September 26, meaning passengers will need to plan their journeys around the final departure time and reach stations before services close.
The move also highlights the role of urban rail systems during large public and religious gatherings. Such events place additional pressure on roads, parking areas and other transport options, while extended metro operations can provide a scheduled alternative for passengers travelling after regular service hours.
