Hyderabad’s Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited has deployed 32 distribution transformers and 19 alternative 11 kV feeders to protect electricity supply around Hussainsagar during the Maha Ganesh immersion on Friday.
The arrangements cover Tank Bund, NTR Marg and the immersion ghats, where large crowds are expected to gather for the city’s major public festival. TGSPDCL has also established a special camp office at NTR Marg to coordinate field operations, safety measures and emergency response.
The camp office was inaugurated by TGSPDCL chairman and managing director Jitesh V. Patil, who inspected the electricity infrastructure and issued instructions to officials. The company said the additional equipment and standby systems had been prepared to maintain uninterrupted and safe power supply during the immersion activity.
The 32 distribution transformers include 23 units rated at 500 kVA, eight units rated at 160 kVA and one unit rated at 1,000 kVA. TGSPDCL has also kept 19 dedicated 11 kV feeders ready, sourced from six substations, to provide alternative supply if the primary network experiences an interruption.
A ring system has been implemented so that electricity can be restored through an alternate feeder in the event of a failure. The arrangement is intended to reduce the duration of outages in an area where crowd density, temporary facilities and continuous movement can make electrical faults particularly hazardous.
“The Ganesh immersion is one of the largest public events in the State, attracting lakhs of devotees. Ensuring uninterrupted power supply during such a massive event is of utmost importance,” Patil said. He added that additional transformers, alternative feeders, dedicated staff and emergency response teams had been deployed in advance.
Patil said public safety had been given the highest priority and that precautions had been taken to prevent electrical accidents. TGSPDCL engineers, officials and field staff will remain on duty around the clock until the immersion concludes, with continuous monitoring of the power-supply network.
The utility has also prepared special control rooms, mobile maintenance teams and emergency equipment to respond to faults or other incidents. The arrangements place the electricity network alongside crowd management and immersion-site operations as a critical part of Hyderabad’s preparations for the event.
