Mumbai Voter Registration Camps Set for September 26 and 27

Mumbai voter registration camps will be held across all Assembly constituencies on September 26 and 27 to help residents update electoral details, register as voters and submit claims or objections during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls for 2026, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said in an official statement.

The camps will be organised at designated locations across Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts. Officials will assist citizens with the electoral roll revision process and help them complete and submit Forms 6, 7 and 8 within the prescribed procedure.

Form 6 is used for inclusion of a name in the electoral roll, while Forms 7 and 8 are used for objections, deletions, corrections and updates to electoral details. Residents who find errors in their entries or whose names are missing from the draft electoral roll can use the camps to seek assistance and file the relevant forms.

Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer S Chockalingam directed officials to ensure that claims and objections relating to names and entries in the draft electoral roll are accepted until September 30, according to the BMC statement. He also asked officials to provide assistance to citizens completing the forms during the revision exercise.

The directions were issued during a review meeting on the SIR-2026 programme for Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts at the BMC headquarters. District Election Officer and BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide appealed to residents to use the special camps and complete the required procedures before the deadline.

The camps are intended to make the revision process more accessible, particularly for residents who require help understanding the forms or submitting claims and objections. The BMC has not specified in the supplied statement the individual venues or operating hours for each Assembly constituency.

The announcement comes amid political concerns over the wider revision exercise. The Maharashtra Congress, represented by a delegation led by state president Harshwardhan Sapkal, met Chockalingam and submitted a memorandum seeking an inquiry into names it said had been excluded from the electoral rolls. The party also alleged administrative lapses, defective forms and delays in serving notices, and sought more time for claims and objections.

The Congress demanded a two-month extension of the claims and objections period and said the exercise required verification to prevent eligible voters from being left out. Those allegations and the figure cited by the party were not independently established in the BMC statement supplied for this report. The immediate official deadline for claims and objections remains September 30, while the special camps are scheduled for September 26 and 27.
