Hunsur Electricity Supply Crisis Leaves Forest-Edge Families Without Power

Hunsur electricity supply problems are affecting forest-edge residents in Hanagodu hobli, including five families who have reportedly lived without power connections for 15 years, according to complaints raised at a public grievance meeting in Doddahejjur gram panchayat in Mysuru district.

Former Agricultural Produce Market Committee president Mudaganur Shubhash told Hunsur tahsildar Manjunath that Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) officials were not responding to residents’ telephone calls and had failed to address electricity-related problems faced by villages located along the forest boundary. He sought action against the officials responsible.

The complaint was raised during a Prajaseva Andolana held at Doddahejjur gram panchayat on Saturday. Residents said unreliable or unavailable electricity was affecting everyday life in the forest-edge settlements, where administrative access and timely responses to service complaints remain a concern.

Ambedkar Swabhimani Sene executive president Nagesh said five families within the gram panchayat limits had built homes on agricultural land and had been living there for 15 years without electricity connections. Without power, their routine activities come to a halt after sunset, he said.

The meeting also brought up delays in social-security payments. A widow’s pension had not reached a beneficiary for six months, residents said, while the absence of pension payments was creating financial difficulties for elderly people. The complaints placed electricity access and welfare delivery together as unresolved service issues for residents of the panchayat area.

Tahsildar Manjunath said several applications concerning problems in forest-edge villages had been received. He said the complaints would be forwarded to the relevant departments and instructions would be issued to resolve them within one week.

Taluk Panchayat executive officer Hongayya, Education Department officer Kalanayak and other officials attended the grievance meeting. The next administrative step is the forwarding of the electricity, pension and other applications to the concerned departments for action within the stated one-week period.
