The move comes as pressure mounts on urban local bodies to demonstrate measurable progress in reducing decades of untreated waste that continues to affect air quality, groundwater and surrounding ecosystems. Officials involved in the discussions said the updated drone survey is expected to provide a more precise estimate of the remaining waste volume, helping agencies redesign the current remediation roadmap. The exercise is also likely to help determine whether existing biomining operations are progressing at the required pace. The Bandhwari landfill has long symbolised the strain placed on urban infrastructure by rapid real estate growth and rising population density across Gurugram and neighbouring NCR districts. Authorities are now examining plans to nearly double the current waste processing capacity at the site in an attempt to shorten remediation timelines.
