Gurugram: A long-pending road connection between Sectors 68 and 69 in New Gurugram is set to be completed under a fresh infrastructure package aimed at improving movement across one of the city’s fastest-expanding urban districts. The project is expected to remove a critical gap in the road network, improve local accessibility and strengthen links between residential and commercial neighbourhoods while incorporating drainage and pedestrian infrastructure.
The proposed development will complete the remaining 900-metre stretch of a larger corridor that has remained partially functional despite rapid urbanisation in the surrounding sectors. According to officials overseeing the city’s infrastructure programme, the project also includes a parallel service road, a stormwater drainage network and continuous footpaths on both sides, creating a more integrated transport corridor rather than a road designed solely for motor vehicles. The estimated investment of over ₹25 crore reflects a broader effort to address missing transport links that often emerge as new residential sectors develop faster than supporting civic infrastructure. Urban planners note that incomplete corridors can increase congestion on neighbouring roads, lengthen travel times and reduce emergency access, particularly in high-growth areas where population density continues to rise. The Gurugram road connectivity project is expected to improve travel between adjoining sectors by creating uninterrupted movement across nearly two kilometres of roadway.
Around 1.1 kilometres of the corridor has already been completed, leaving the remaining portion as a bottleneck for commuters, service vehicles and public transport operations. Beyond improving traffic flow, the project incorporates climate-responsive infrastructure through a dedicated stormwater drainage system intended to manage heavy rainfall more effectively. With several parts of Gurugram experiencing recurring waterlogging during the monsoon, urban infrastructure experts increasingly view drainage as an essential component of transport planning rather than a secondary civic utility. Equally significant is the inclusion of pedestrian facilities. Continuous footpaths are expected to provide safer movement for residents accessing schools, workplaces, neighbourhood markets and public spaces. Urban mobility specialists have consistently argued that roads designed for multiple users including pedestrians support more inclusive and sustainable city development while reducing dependence on private vehicles for short-distance travel.
Officials associated with the programme have indicated that construction is targeted for completion within approximately one year after the work is formally awarded. Once operational, the Gurugram road connectivity initiative is expected to strengthen east-west movement across New Gurugram and improve integration between existing and emerging urban sectors. As Gurugram continues to expand beyond its traditional commercial districts, infrastructure projects that close missing links rather than simply adding new roads are increasingly becoming central to creating a more resilient and efficient urban transport network. The long-term success of such investments, however, will depend on timely execution, effective maintenance and coordination with future land-use planning to ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with the city’s continued growth.
