The Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA) has started the tender process for a ₹754-crore elevated flyover linking Sainik Colony Chowk in the NIT area with Greater Faridabad, a project expected to provide a direct connection between two parts of the city. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 900 days, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR.
The project is part of the East-West connectivity plan, which aims to improve movement between NIT Faridabad and Greater Faridabad. The report said the proposed route would benefit more than 50,000 people who travel daily between the two areas for work, business and other purposes.
At present, there is no direct road connection between the edge of Sainik Colony and Greater Faridabad. The National Highway and railway lines divide the NIT area, Sector 12 and Greater Faridabad into separate parts, requiring commuters to use existing bridges, underpasses and roads to complete the journey.
Residents travelling from NIT towards Sector 12 or Old Faridabad currently use the Neelam, Bata and NHPC railway overbridges. They then have to cross an underpass on the National Highway and continue towards Sector 12 and the bypass before crossing the Agra Canal to reach Greater Faridabad. The multiple junctions and crossings frequently add to congestion along the route.
The proposed works include an elevated road, a slip road near the Bata railway overbridge and an underpass near the Khatu Shyam temple. The slip road will descend towards the National Highway and rise in the direction of the Neelam bridge, according to the report.
The project is planned to include seven flyovers and underpasses at different locations. The report identified a flyover over Badkhal village, another between the Sainik Colony turn and Badkhal Road after the Gurugram Road approach, and a third structure passing through Badkhal village alongside the lake.
A fourth structure is planned at Ankhir Chowk. It is intended to connect the Ankhir-Gurugram route with the Gurugram-Faridabad Road and the highway linking towards Greater Faridabad. The remaining locations were not detailed in the supplied report.
Greater Faridabad has seen rapid residential development in recent years, with several housing societies and new residential sectors emerging in the area. The new development has increased travel demand between the eastern residential districts and established parts of Faridabad, while existing routes continue to funnel traffic through a limited number of bridges, underpasses and junctions.
Once completed, the elevated route is expected to provide a more direct connection on the Badkhal route and reduce pressure on existing roads, the report said. The immediate official milestone is the tender process initiated by FMDA; the supplied report does not provide the tender deadline, contractor selection date or a scheduled construction start date.
