The accused in the Gurugram hit-and-run case, Kalyan Bainsla, and his cousin Lavneesh have been sent to 14 days of judicial custody after their two-day police remand ended. A court has scheduled the next hearing for October 1.
The two men were produced before Civil Judge Nidhi Beniwal on Friday, according to a senior police officer cited in the case. The court sent them to judicial custody while the investigation continues.
Police allege that Bainsla struck woman biker Shivani Chauhan, also known as Siya, with a car on Golf Course Road in Gurugram. The incident took place on Sunday when a car allegedly travelling at high speed from behind hit Chauhan’s motorcycle.
According to the police account, the impact caused Chauhan to fall from the motorcycle and be dragged along the road. The collision created a risk to her life, the report said. The case has drawn attention because of a video of the incident that was circulated on social media.
Bainsla, who is identified in the report as the owner of a gym, was allegedly absconding after the collision. Police later arrested him in Rajasthan’s Dausa. His cousin Lavneesh has also been named as an accused and was produced before the court along with Bainsla.
Police added an attempt-to-murder charge against Bainsla after the video circulated, according to the report. The charge reflects the police case at this stage; the court has not been reported as making a finding on the allegations.
The remand proceedings mark the latest step in a case that raises concerns about road safety on one of Gurugram’s important corridors. Golf Course Road carries heavy daily traffic and links residential, commercial and office districts, making the conduct of motorists and the protection of two-wheeler users central to the road’s safety conditions.
For the investigation, the next stages will include examining the circumstances of the collision, the video evidence and the actions of the accused after the incident. The police have said that further investigation is under way. The next court hearing is scheduled for October 1.
