The investigation into the alleged car attack on a woman biker in Gurugram has taken a serious turn, with a Special Investigation Team finding that accused Kalyan Bainsla allegedly followed her for around two kilometres before hitting her vehicle, according to sources cited in a report by Navbharat Times.
The incident reportedly began near the Sector 53 metro station, where Bainsla and the woman biker allegedly had an argument. The SIT is examining whether Bainsla then followed her before the collision. The report states that Bainsla was driving the car when it struck the woman, causing her to fall from her motorcycle.
According to the report, Bainsla had been returning from a club after partying with three friends when the incident occurred. Lavneesh, who was allegedly seated in the front passenger seat, is accused of provoking Bainsla to follow the woman. Police have taken Lavneesh into custody, while notices have been issued to two other people who were present in the car.
The SIT is expected to record the statements of the people who were in the vehicle. Their role in the incident will be assessed before police decide whether further arrests are required, officials told the publication. The investigation is also examining whether Bainsla had consumed alcohol or another intoxicating substance at the time of the collision.
Blood and urine samples of Bainsla have been sent for testing. The results are expected to help investigators establish his condition at the time of the incident. The report does not provide the findings of those tests.
Before his arrest, Bainsla had given a different account of the incident while speaking to the media on Monday. He claimed that his sister and his aunt’s son were in the car. According to his version, several bikers were riding unpredictably in front of and behind the vehicle on Golf Course Road, allegedly troubling the occupants for about 10 minutes. He said he had signalled the bikers to ride slowly and carefully.
The SIT was formed after the collision to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The competing accounts, the alleged pursuit near the metro station and the pending forensic test results are now central to the police inquiry. Further action against the people who were in the car is expected after their statements are recorded and their roles are assessed.
