Gujarat Government Recruitment Plan Targets 2.1 Lakh Posts by 2033

The Gujarat government has planned direct recruitment for more than 2.10 lakh Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 posts between 2024 and 2033, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said at an appointment-letter distribution event in Gandhinagar.

The announcement was made as appointment letters were handed to 113 directly recruited Deputy Section Officers in the state Secretariat. A further 64 Section Officers were promoted during the programme. Appointment letters were also issued to 87 Class 3 candidates and 26 candidates selected through a special recruitment drive for persons with disabilities.

Sanghavi said selection for government jobs was based on merit, eligibility and hard work, without recommendations or influence. He said the recruitment process was being conducted through a transparent system.

According to figures cited at the event, the state government recruited for 1,79,424 posts between 2014 and 2023, completing 92.95 per cent of the recruitment planned during that period. The new estimate covers direct recruitment for Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 vacancies over the 2024-2033 period.

The recruitment plan is significant for the functioning of Gujarat’s public administration because the posts span multiple state departments and include positions involved in processing government files, applications and citizen-facing administrative work. The source report did not provide a department-wise breakup of the projected 2.10 lakh vacancies, examination schedules or individual recruitment notifications.

The programme also highlighted the geographical spread of candidates entering the state administration. Sanghavi said young people from remote areas, including Dahod and small villages near the India-Pakistan border in Banaskantha, had been appointed to important Secretariat positions such as Deputy Section Officer.

Chief Secretary M.K. Das said merit and transparency were essential in government functioning. He called on newly appointed employees to work with commitment, speed and responsibility, and said files and applications should be disposed of on time so that citizens’ problems could be addressed appropriately.

Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department Anju Sharma delivered the welcome address. The event therefore combined appointments, promotions and the state government’s broader recruitment message, but the government did not announce a single consolidated implementation calendar for the recruitment planned up to 2033.

At a separate event in Gandhinagar, 101 new state transport buses were flagged off in the presence of Transport Minister Pravinbhai Mali and Sanghavi. The deputy chief minister also announced that State Transport Corporation employees would receive half their salary in advance for the Diwali festival. The report did not specify the routes or deployment schedule for the new buses.
