Ahmedabad Metro to Close Early on Diwali; Last Trains Before 7:08 PM

Ahmedabad Metro services will close earlier than usual on Diwali, November 8, with the Ahmedabad corridors operating until around 7 pm and the Gandhinagar corridors ending services by 6 pm, according to the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited. The revised schedule is intended to protect passengers, staff and metro operations during public firecracker use.

On regular days, Ahmedabad Metro services run from 6:20 am to 11 pm, while services in Gandhinagar generally operate from 6:20 am to 9 pm. GMRC said the special timetable would apply only on Diwali and has been introduced in view of passenger safety, security and the safe operation of the metro rail system.

On the Vastral Gam–Thaltej Gam corridor, services will operate from 6:20 am to 7 pm. The last train from Vastral Gam towards Thaltej Gam will depart at 7 pm, while the final train from Thaltej Gam towards Vastral Gam will leave at 7:05 pm.

The APMC–Koteshwar Road corridor will also operate from 6:20 am to 7 pm. The last train from APMC to Koteshwar Road is scheduled to depart at 7:08 pm, while the final service from Koteshwar Road to APMC will leave at 7:05 pm.

Services on the APMC–Mahatma Mandir corridor in Gandhinagar will be available from 6:20 am to 6 pm. The last train from APMC to Mahatma Mandir will depart at 5:30 pm, followed by the final train from Mahatma Mandir to APMC at 6:08 pm.

The APMC–GIFT City corridor will also operate from 6:20 am to 6 pm. The last service from APMC to GIFT City will leave at 5:16 pm, while the final train from GIFT City to APMC will depart at 6:21 pm.

GMRC said the schedule change reflects a practice followed by other metro rail systems during Diwali, when public firecracker use can affect passenger safety and metro operations. The revised departure times mean that passengers travelling in the evening will need to complete their journeys before the listed last-train timings for their respective corridors.

The change affects both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar sections of the metro network, including the APMC interchange area and connections towards Mahatma Mandir and GIFT City. Regular operating hours are expected to apply outside the one-day Diwali arrangement, while the special timings listed by GMRC will govern services on November 8.
