Google Cloud expands AI infrastructure in India

Google Cloud is significantly expanding its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in India, with plans to locally host more advanced models and deploy its full AI stack in one of its fastest-growing markets globally.

The Gemini 1.5 Flash model is already hosted in India, and more advanced iterations such as Gemini 2.5 Flash are expected soon as part of Google’s 12-month AI refresh cycle. Local hosting will allow Indian enterprises and developers to benefit from lower latency, stronger performance, and improved data sovereignty. “India as a market is growing among the fastest globally,” said Bikram Singh Bedi, Vice President and Country Managing Director of Google Cloud India. “We are not just augmenting capacity but also technology, to ensure Indian customers access the latest tools.”

Google Cloud operates from two Indian regions—Mumbai and Delhi NCR. The Delhi centre focuses on supporting regulated sectors, including government operations. Google is also collaborating with the Indian government on the ₹10,000 crore IndiaAI Mission to provide subsidised compute infrastructure to startups and researchers. Among its public sector projects, Google Cloud powers the iGOT Karmayogi platform, which uses AI to deliver personalised learning to civil servants. Google’s full-stack AI offering includes its Vertex AI development platform, Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), and pre-built agents for customer support, data analytics, and security.

This expansion underscores India’s strategic position in Google Cloud’s global AI roadmap, reflecting both growing local demand and the government’s push for AI innovation and digital public infrastructure.
