The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started the land acquisition process for two long-pending 100-foot road corridors in the Shamshabad and Rajendranagar areas, seeking to create alternative routes for traffic moving between the Outer Ring Road and different parts of Hyderabad.
A total of 23,496 square yards of land will be acquired for the two routes, according to the Deccan Chronicle report. Notifications have been issued for the development of one corridor from the Gollapalli NH-44 junction in Shamshabad mandal to Pedda Golkonda through the ORR service road.
The second project, identified as Corridor No. 19, will widen a major road in Rajendranagar mandal limits. The proposed 100-foot road will connect the ORR service road to Chevella Road through Bandlaguda Jagir and Kismatpur.
The road expansion projects have remained pending as the areas have experienced rapid construction of multi-storey buildings, population growth and a rise in vehicular movement. The resulting pressure on existing roads has contributed to persistent congestion for local residents and commuters.
The acquisition process marks an administrative step before construction can proceed. The notifications identify the routes and the land requirement, but the report does not specify the total project cost, the number of affected properties, compensation details or a construction completion deadline.
The Shamshabad-Rajendranagar belt has become an important suburban connection around Hyderabad’s ORR and NH-44 network. The proposed corridors are intended to provide additional road capacity and distribute vehicles across more routes instead of concentrating traffic on existing links.
Once completed and opened to traffic, the two roads are expected to offer alternative connections from the ORR service road to surrounding parts of the city. GHMC’s immediate next step is to advance the land acquisition process for the notified corridors before the road construction works can be taken forward.
