The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has begun the land acquisition process for two 100-foot road corridors in the Shamshabad and Rajendranagar areas, where rising construction and vehicle volumes have contributed to persistent traffic congestion, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle.
A total of 23,496 square yards of land will be acquired for the two routes. The GHMC has issued notifications for one corridor running from the Gollapalli NH-44 junction in Shamshabad mandal to Pedda Golkonda through the Outer Ring Road service road.
The second project, identified as Corridor No. 19, will widen a road in the Rajendranagar mandal limits. The proposed route will have a width of 100 feet and connect the ORR service road to Chevella Road through Bandlaguda Jagir and Kismatpur.
The road expansion works had remained pending while the surrounding suburban areas experienced rapid development. The source report said the growth of multi-storey buildings had increased both population and vehicular density in the two areas, leaving residents to deal with severe congestion as the planned widening remained incomplete.
The proposed corridors are intended to create additional road capacity around the western and south-western edges of Hyderabad. Once constructed and opened to traffic, vehicles travelling from the ORR to different parts of the city are likely to have alternative routes, according to the report.
The land acquisition process is the immediate administrative step disclosed for the projects. The information available does not specify the compensation framework, the individual properties affected, the construction agency, project costs or a completion deadline. It also does not state whether the two corridors will be developed simultaneously or provide details of junction improvements, drainage, pedestrian facilities or public transport provisions.
The projects are being advanced against the backdrop of continued suburban expansion around Shamshabad and Rajendranagar. The areas combine major road links with new residential construction, increasing pressure on routes that connect the ORR, NH-44, Chevella Road and surrounding neighbourhoods.
The next stage will involve the acquisition process and subsequent construction of the notified road corridors. The GHMC’s notifications and project implementation will determine when the proposed 100-foot roads become available for traffic and whether they provide the additional routes identified in the announcement.
