Four men have been arrested in Ghaziabad after two female wrestlers, including a 12-year-old girl, were allegedly harassed and assaulted while travelling to a wrestling event, police said. The incident took place in the Nandgram police station area, near Morata, and a case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and other relevant provisions.
According to the complaint cited in the report, the two wrestlers were travelling with the girl’s maternal uncle to a dangal organised in Dagarpur on Sunday morning. The complainant, who lives in the Wave City police station area, said the group was stopped by four men while passing through the Morata route at around 11.30 am.
The men allegedly began harassing the woman and the minor girl inside the vehicle. When the complainant objected, the accused allegedly attacked him, his sister and his daughter. The three people were injured in the assault, according to the complaint. The complainant also alleged that the accused attempted to sexually abuse the 12-year-old girl and threatened the family before leaving the spot.
The family later sought information from people in nearby villages and identified the alleged attackers. The complaint named Kapil Tyagi, Deepak Tyagi, Nitish Tyagi and Arun Tyagi. The report said the Nandgram police registered a case based on the allegations and arrested all four accused.
The case involves allegations of harassment, assault and an attempted sexual offence against a minor. These allegations will be tested through the police investigation and subsequent legal proceedings. The registration of charges under the POCSO Act places the alleged offence involving the 12-year-old within the framework of India’s child-protection law.
The incident has also brought renewed attention to the safety of women and girls travelling through semi-urban stretches on the outskirts of Ghaziabad, where routes connecting residential areas and village settlements can see mixed traffic and limited public visibility. The available report does not provide details of the injuries, the specific sections applied beyond the POCSO Act and molestation-related provisions, or whether the accused have been produced before a court.
The Nandgram police have begun proceedings after receiving the complaint. The immediate next steps will include the investigation into the allegations, recording statements and further legal action in accordance with the registered case.
