Gangotri Highway Crash Kills Four as River Search Continues

Four people were killed after an Innova car lost control and plunged into a river near Dabrani, about 20 metres beyond Gangnani on Uttarakhand’s Gangotri National Highway, officials said. The accident has triggered a search operation to determine whether anyone else was travelling in the vehicle.

The bodies of the four occupants were recovered from the riverbank, according to the report. Police, State Disaster Response Force personnel and teams from the 108 emergency service were sent to the site after the accident was reported.

The rescue operation is being conducted in difficult conditions, with water police and divers searching the river amid strong currents. Officials have been directed to establish whether additional passengers were in the vehicle and to continue the search accordingly.

District Magistrate Prashant Arya ordered the mobilisation of relief and rescue teams. The administration is monitoring the operation, while officials at the site have been instructed to provide immediate assistance and expedite rescue efforts.

The Disaster Management Centre and medical teams have also been placed on high alert. Authorities said the arrangement is intended to ensure that any survivors receive first aid and are shifted to hospital without delay. The deployment brings together district administration, police, disaster-response personnel, emergency medical services and specialist water-rescue teams.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Officials are also working to contact the families of those killed. The search for any other possible passengers and the investigation into how the vehicle lost control were continuing, according to the report.
