A second CNG price increase in 14 days has pushed the fuel rate in Ahmedabad above ₹100 per kilogram, raising operating costs for vehicle owners and increasing pressure on autorickshaw and taxi fares ahead of Diwali.
According to a report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad, Adani has increased the price of CNG by ₹2.30 per kilogram. The new rate has crossed ₹100 and stands at ₹100.77 per kilogram. The latest increase follows a rise of more than ₹4 per kilogram on 23 October, when the price reached ₹98.47.
The two increases mean that Ahmedabad’s CNG users have faced a combined rise of at least ₹6.30 per kilogram in less than two weeks. The report also notes that CNG prices had earlier been increased by ₹4 per kilogram on 1 August, followed by another increase of ₹4 per kilogram in October.
The immediate impact will be felt by private vehicle owners who use CNG for daily travel. The effect is likely to be more significant for autorickshaw and taxi operators, for whom fuel is a recurring operating expense linked directly to the cost of every trip.
Any increase in fares would also affect passengers. Autorickshaw and taxi users in Ahmedabad could face higher travel costs if operators seek to recover the additional fuel expense. The source report says the latest increase may put pressure on fares, although it does not provide details of any approved or implemented fare revision.
The timing of the increase is significant for residents preparing for the Diwali period, when household travel, shopping trips and local mobility typically increase. For transport workers, the higher CNG rate adds to the cost of running vehicles, while passengers may ultimately bear part of that increase through fares.
The latest change also highlights the sensitivity of Ahmedabad’s urban transport system to fuel-price movements. CNG is widely used by autorickshaws, taxis and other commercial vehicles, making its price an important factor in the daily economics of short-distance travel. A change in the per-kilogram rate can therefore affect both the earnings of drivers and the cost paid by commuters.
The report does not cite an official statement explaining the reason for the latest increase, nor does it identify any decision by local authorities on revised autorickshaw or taxi fares. For now, the confirmed change is the increase in Adani CNG’s reported rate to ₹100.77 per kilogram, following the previous rise to ₹98.47 on 23 October. Any fare revision would depend on subsequent decisions by the relevant authorities and transport operators.
