Faridabad Deputy Mayor Posts Move Closer After BJP Names Four Candidates

The process to fill Faridabad Municipal Corporation’s vacant senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor posts moved forward after a five-hour Bharatiya Janata Party meeting in which four names were discussed for the two positions. The names will now be placed before the Haryana party leadership for a final decision, according to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR.

The meeting was held at the BJP office in Sector 15 on Monday, marking the second recent attempt by the party to build consensus on the appointments. The final announcement will be made only after approval from the state leadership.

The state government sent Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board chairman Vedpal, MLA Ghanshyam Arora and former mayor Avneet Kaur as observers for the meeting. Union minister of state Krishan Pal Gurjar, Cabinet minister Vipul Goyal and other legislators were also present. Councillors associated with both the Gurjar and Goyal camps attended the discussions.

The observers sought the views of councillors on candidates for both posts. According to the report, two names were suggested for senior deputy mayor and two for deputy mayor. Councillors supporting Gurjar backed names that had already been under discussion, while councillors aligned with Goyal proposed two new names. The BJP’s senior leadership will now consider all four candidates.

The two posts have remained vacant despite the constitution of the current municipal council. Elections for Faridabad’s 46 wards were held on March 2, 2025, with the BJP winning 39 wards. Six independent councillors and one Congress councillor were also elected. The mayor and councillors took office on March 31, 2025, but the senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor positions have not yet been filled.

The delay has followed two earlier attempts to settle the appointments. A municipal House meeting scheduled for August 11, 2025, had to be postponed after the relevant leaders were absent and a party-level meeting was under way. In April 2026, the Haryana government assigned former state BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli the task of building consensus among councillors. However, no agreement was reached even when 33 councillors were present.

The vacant posts have become an administrative and political issue within the corporation because they are intended to provide an additional leadership link between councillors and the municipal administration. Local councillors and residents have been waiting for the appointments, with the expectation that elected representatives in these positions could help escalate ward-level concerns and support coordination on civic works.

The immediate next step is the state BJP leadership’s decision on the four names. The appointments will be announced only after the leadership grants its approval.
