The Delhi Traffic Police has announced diversions and regulated movement on key routes during the BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13, while Delhi Metro services will begin at 6 am on September 13 to support the movement of students and the general public.
The traffic restrictions will apply from 9.30 am to 9 pm on the notified routes. In a post on X, the Delhi Traffic Police said temporary traffic regulations may be implemented during the movement of dignitaries, particularly between 9.30 am and 9.30 pm, in and around the notified Controlled Area.
The advisory asks commuters to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time and use public transport, especially the Metro, wherever feasible. People travelling through affected areas have also been instructed to follow designated diversion routes and comply with directions issued by traffic personnel.
The police said emergency and essential-service vehicles would be given priority passage during the regulated movement. The advisory did not list the specific routes in the information released by the department, but said diversions and regulated movement would be implemented on key routes across Delhi.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation separately announced that train services on all lines would commence at 6 am on Sunday, September 13. The early start is intended to facilitate the smooth and timely movement of students appearing for examinations and members of the general public.
“Early Resumption of Metro Services. To facilitate the smooth and timely movement of students appearing for examinations and the general public, Metro train services will commence at 06:00 AM on all lines on Sunday, 13th September 2026. Students and passengers are advised to plan their journey accordingly,” DMRC said in a post on X.
The traffic and Metro advisories come as India hosts the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. India’s chairship of the grouping is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, with a focus on development, sustainability and innovation.
Commuters travelling during the advisory period have been asked to check their routes before leaving, allow additional time for journeys and consider the Metro where possible. The traffic regulations will remain in force during the notified movement windows, while the early Metro service will operate across all lines on September 13.
