The Election Commission has extended Delhi’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls until November 25, allowing booth-level officers (BLOs) and supervisors to continue working half-day shifts while retaining their regular departmental responsibilities.
The arrangement, originally made on September 15, will remain in force following the extension of the claims and objections period. An order issued by the electoral registration officer for the Rajinder Nagar Assembly constituency said the arrangement would enable officials to complete SIR-related duties without affecting their routine departmental work.
The Commission’s revised schedule allows residents to file claims and objections until November 25. The disposal of those claims and objections will continue until December 15, after which the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on December 22.
Under the extended deployment plan, teachers appointed as BLOs or BLO supervisors will undertake electoral duties outside their school shifts. Teachers working in morning-shift schools will perform SIR work in the second half of the day, while those assigned to evening-shift schools will undertake it in the first half.
Other personnel involved in the exercise, including office staff, Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers, may carry out SIR duties during the second half of the day or on alternate days. The precise arrangement will depend on administrative convenience and the requirements of their regular departments.
BLOs and their supervisors will assist with serving hearing notices, collecting supporting documents and carrying out other field-level work related to claims and objections. These activities are part of the process through which entries in the electoral roll are reviewed and objections or corrections are handled.
The extension means that government departments and public institutions will need to continue accommodating election-related duties alongside their regular operations. The order directed heads of departments, school principals and other concerned officials to provide administrative cooperation so that the SIR exercise can be completed within the revised schedule.
The final electoral roll is due to be published on December 22, following the completion of the claims-and-objections process and the disposal of submissions by December 15.
