As thousands of candidates prepare to appear for the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Examination this week, Northern Railway has introduced a temporary exam-focused rail service connecting Delhi, Meerut and Saharanpur, aiming to reduce travel pressure across one of North India’s busiest commuter corridors.
The special train arrangement, operating between 8 and 10 June, comes amid rising concerns around overcrowded public transport during large-scale competitive examinations. For students travelling from smaller towns and peri-urban settlements, reliable mobility remains a major barrier to accessing employment-linked opportunities. Railway officials have scheduled dedicated services on the Tilak Bridge–Saharanpur and Meerut City–Saharanpur routes, with stoppages across multiple intermediate stations including Modinagar, Khatauli, Meerut Cantt and Deoband. The decision effectively strengthens short-distance regional connectivity for examination candidates who otherwise depend on irregular buses or costly private transport options. The move highlights the growing importance of flexible public transport planning in rapidly expanding urban regions such as Delhi NCR and western Uttar Pradesh. According to railway schedules released for the three-day operational window, the Tilak Bridge–Saharanpur service will depart Delhi in the morning and return by evening, while a second special train will connect Meerut City with Saharanpur through the afternoon cycle. Both services are expected to halt at all stations along the route to improve last-mile accessibility for students from semi-urban and rural catchment areas. Transport planners increasingly view such temporary rail interventions as essential civic infrastructure rather than isolated operational measures.
