The forecast matters beyond weather comfort: another wet spell could put pressure on roads, drainage systems and daily mobility as the region enters another period of sustained monsoon activity.
The latest IMD Delhi bulletin, issued on August 10, forecasts temperatures of 34-36°C during the day and a minimum around 27.6°C. Light rain is expected at several locations, with moderate rainfall possible at isolated places from afternoon to evening. The department has also flagged the possibility of minor traffic disruption and water accumulation on roads and in low-lying areas. The situation is expected to remain unsettled on Tuesday. IMD forecasts one or two spells of light rain across most areas from early morning to noon, with moderate rain at a few places, followed by another spell of light rain later in the day. Temperatures could fall to 23-25°C, providing some relief from daytime heat. For commuters, the immediate concern is less about a single heavy shower and more about repeated rainfall interacting with existing urban constraints. Water accumulation can slow traffic, increase journey times and affect access to roads, underpasses and neighbourhoods with weaker drainage capacity.
IMD has advised residents to check traffic conditions before travelling and avoid locations that regularly face waterlogging. The broader Delhi-NCR rain outlook remains wet but does not suggest uninterrupted heavy rainfall every day. The forecast points to mostly cloudy skies and lighter showers from August 12 onward. Very light to light rain remains possible on August 13 and 14, while similar conditions are expected on August 15 and 16. The regional warning picture also warrants attention. IMD’s August 10 warning bulletin lists heavy rain for Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on August 10 and 11, while August 13 carries another heavy-rain warning. The intervening days have fewer warning signals, indicating that rainfall intensity may vary rather than remain consistently high.
For a region where homes, offices, transport corridors and commercial districts are closely interconnected, the Delhi-NCR rain forecast highlights the importance of maintaining drainage, protecting pedestrian movement and keeping traffic systems responsive during recurring wet spells.
