The Delhi weather forecast points to partly cloudy skies and no rainfall warning for the national capital over the next few days, while the India Meteorological Department has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and rain across several other states. The remnant of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu has meanwhile weakened into a depression over east Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh.
According to the IMD forecast reported by the Times of India, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana are expected to remain largely dry. The national capital is likely to see partly cloudy conditions, with no rain alert issued for the city. The forecast provides some short-term relief for residents and commuters, although the report does not specify any change in air-quality conditions.
The depression formed after the weather system weakened from a deep depression and moved nearly northwards at about 10 kmph during the six hours before 5.30 am IST on November 4. The IMD located it over east Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh, near latitude 17.0°N and longitude 80.1°E.
At that time, the system was around 30 km northwest of Nandigama in Andhra Pradesh, 30 km south of Khammam in Telangana, 80 km northwest of Vijayawada, 90 km east of Nalgonda and 110 km southwest of Bhadrachalam. The IMD said the depression was very likely to continue moving nearly northwards and weaken further into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.
Tamil Nadu is expected to receive the most persistent storm activity in the forecast period. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds of 40-50 kmph and isolated rainfall across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal through November 8. Wind speeds could reach 60 kmph, while isolated heavy rainfall is forecast between November 6 and 7.
For November 4, heavy rain has been forecast in Madurai, Theni and Dindigul districts. Other parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to receive moderate rainfall, with activity likely to be concentrated in western and southern districts near the Western Ghats.
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in parts of Rayalaseema, where winds could reach 50 kmph. East and West Madhya Pradesh may receive isolated to scattered rainfall, with gusty winds in some areas. North Interior Karnataka is likely to see isolated showers, while parts of Goa may receive light rain and thundershowers on November 4 and 5.
The forecast also covers northern and eastern India. West Bengal is expected to remain dry, with minimum temperatures likely to fall gradually by 3-4 degrees Celsius over the next three days. In Himachal Pradesh, light to moderate rain has affected several areas under the influence of a Western Disturbance. Higher-altitude areas, including Kinnaur, Shimla and Lahaul-Spiti, may receive light snowfall, with isolated rain or snow also possible in the higher reaches of Chamba and upper Kangra.
The IMD forecast indicates that rainfall and thunderstorm activity will continue in parts of southern India, particularly Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, through November 8. The depression over Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh is expected to weaken further into a well-marked low-pressure area during the next 12 hours.
