Delhi Metro will end services earlier on Diwali, with the last train departing from terminal stations at 10 pm across all lines, while morning services on three corridors will begin one hour earlier at 6 am.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has advised passengers to plan their journeys around the revised timetable. On normal days, the final metro services generally run until about 11 pm, but the Diwali schedule brings the evening closure forward by one hour.
The earlier morning service will apply to the Pink, Magenta and Grey lines. The Pink Line, which operates between Majlis Park and Shiv Vihar, will begin services at 6 am instead of its usual 7 am start on Sundays. The Magenta Line services covered by the advisory include the Botanical Garden–Krishna Park Extension and Majlis Park–Deepali Chowk sections.
On the Grey Line, the early start will apply to services between Dwarka, Kakrola and Dhansa Bus Stand. The change gives passengers using these corridors an additional hour of morning service, while the evening operating window will be shorter across the network.
The revised evening schedule also covers the Airport Express Line. DMRC said the last metro service from the terminal stations of all lines, including the Airport Express Line, will start at 10 pm on Diwali. Passengers travelling from intermediate stations may therefore need to account for the time required for the train to reach their boarding station after its departure from the terminal.
The timing change is significant for passengers making late-evening journeys across Delhi and the National Capital Region, particularly those travelling to railway stations, interchanges, airports, markets and residential areas after festival visits. Commuters using the metro for return journeys have been advised to begin their trips early enough to avoid missing the final service.
DMRC has asked passengers to plan their travel according to the special timetable and check its website and official social media accounts for further updates. The corporation’s advisory places responsibility on passengers to confirm route-specific information before starting their journeys, especially where a trip involves interchanging between lines.
The Diwali adjustment affects the operating hours rather than the listed routes. The Pink, Magenta and Grey lines will open earlier in the morning, while all metro corridors will have an earlier final departure in the evening. Further passenger information is expected to be issued through DMRC’s official communication channels.
