Pune Special Trains Add 99 Trips to Ease Diwali Rush

Pune railway authorities have planned 99 special train trips from Hadapsar and Khadki stations to divide the Diwali travel rush, while adding 36 unreserved coaches for Danapur-bound passengers, according to a report by Sakal – Pune. The measures are intended to reduce pressure on Pune station and improve access for passengers travelling towards north India, Vidarbha and Marathwada.

The railway administration has separated train operations and passenger flows across stations instead of handling the entire seasonal surge at Pune station. Several trains bound for northern and western destinations are being operated from Hadapsar and Khadki as part of the crowd-management plan.

Hadapsar station will handle 78 special trips. These include 32 trips to Gorakhpur, 23 to Nagpur, 14 to Ghazipur City, five to Prayagraj and four to Latur. Khadki station will handle 21 trips, comprising 14 services to Hazrat Nizamuddin and seven to Shri Ganganagar.

Together, the two stations will account for 99 special trips. The reported station-wise division is aimed at distributing passengers across Pune’s railway network during the period when travel to homes for Diwali is at its peak.

The Pune railway division has also increased unreserved capacity for passengers travelling to Danapur. Thirty-six additional general coaches were attached to different trains on Friday, with the arrangement carrying approximately 7,000 passengers in a single day, the report said.

Hemant Kumar Behera, public relations officer of the Pune railway division, said the additional general coaches had been arranged to assist unreserved passengers and prevent inconvenience during the festival travel period. The railway administration is also carrying out wider crowd-management planning alongside the station-level segregation of trains and passengers.

The measures reflect the operational pressure created by concentrated festival travel, particularly on routes connecting Pune with northern India and interior Maharashtra. By shifting selected services to Hadapsar and Khadki, the division is using multiple stations to manage passenger volumes rather than relying solely on Pune station.

The report did not specify the complete operating timetable for all 99 trips or the dates on which each special service will run. Passengers will therefore need to check the railway’s latest service information before travelling, while the division’s immediate focus remains the management of Diwali-period crowds and the movement of unreserved passengers to Danapur.
