Delhi Clears Rs 99.5-Crore Sports Complex in Pitampura

Delhi will get a Rs 99.5 crore sports hostel and training complex in Pitampura, with the facility planned to provide year-round coaching infrastructure and residential accommodation for 412 budding athletes. The project is expected to be completed by April 2027 after receiving financial approval from the Delhi government.

The complex will be built on a 2.8-acre plot and will include an all-weather, FINA-compliant swimming pool, a practice pool, two gymnastics training halls and separate hostel blocks for boys and girls. The project brings athlete accommodation and specialised training facilities together at a single public sports campus.

According to an official cited by the Times of India, the swimming pool was initially planned as a basic open-air seasonal facility. It has since been upgraded to an indoor, climate-regulated arena with heat-pump systems and a long-span steel roof structure. The complex will also function as a centre of excellence for swimming.

The girls’ hostel will be a ground-plus-seven-floor building with 96 rooms, six dormitories, a kitchen, dining facilities and recreational spaces. The boys’ hostel will also have seven floors above the ground level, with 76 rooms, six dormitories, a kitchen, dining area, multipurpose hall, indoor games facilities and recreational zones. The two hostel wings will have separate security arrangements.

The additional practice pool is designed to support concurrent resistance and aerobic or cardiovascular training. The two gymnastics halls, including single-height and double-height spaces, will be located on the first floor. Residential accommodation will also be available to athletes undergoing football, basketball, handball, volleyball and athletics training at other government centres in the surrounding area.

The project includes supporting utilities and safety systems intended to enable year-round operations. These include a centralised solar power generation plant, an underground water tank, dedicated pool filtration plants and a 40-kilolitre-per-day sewage treatment-cum-effluent treatment plant. The complex will also have a high-definition CCTV system, an electricity substation and a backup diesel generator set.

The project marks a move away from relying solely on seasonal sports facilities by combining climate-controlled training infrastructure with residential capacity. Its completion timeline, construction progress and eventual operational arrangements will determine when athletes can begin using the campus.
