Pitampura Sports Hostel Gets ₹99.52-Crore Plan for 412 Athletes

Delhi will develop a modern sports hostel and training complex in Pitampura at an estimated cost of ₹99.52 crore, with accommodation for 412 athletes and a target completion date of April 2027, according to a report by Jagran – New Delhi.

The project will be built across 2.75 acres and will include separate hostel facilities for male and female athletes. The complex is intended to provide accommodation and year-round training facilities in the same location, particularly for athletes involved in swimming and gymnastics.

Its main feature will be an all-weather, temperature-controlled indoor swimming pool designed to international standards. The facility is planned as a swimming centre of excellence, with provisions for 50-metre and 25-metre competitions, water polo and regular training. An additional practice pool and a gymnastics hall are also part of the project.

The hostel buildings are expected to include facilities linked to accommodation, food, recreation and athlete training. The project plan also includes a gym, indoor sports facilities, water and sewage systems, a solar power plant, a sewage treatment plant, closed-circuit television surveillance, fire-safety systems and electricity backup.

The integrated model would allow athletes to stay close to their training facilities instead of relying on separate accommodation and sports venues. The report said the Pitampura complex is expected to support training throughout the year, although details such as the operating agency, user selection process, fee structure and maintenance arrangements were not specified.

Pitampura falls within the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency represented by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The report noted that Gupta had attended a development-related programme at the district park in Pitampura in February 2026. It also referred to around ₹250 crore of development works mentioned for the area during the previous year.

The hostel is part of a wider expansion of sports infrastructure in Delhi. Development of the main campus of Delhi Sports University is also under way, with proposed athlete hostels, training centres, sports-science facilities and other international-standard infrastructure. The report further said that several sports-facility projects in Delhi were approved in 2026 under the Centre’s sports infrastructure scheme.

The Pitampura project will now have to move from the announced plan to construction, with April 2027 set as the stated completion target. Further details on construction milestones, procurement, management and access for athletes remain to be announced.
