Cyclone Murasu Disrupts Chennai-Andhra Flights for Second Day

Cyclone Murasu has disrupted air connectivity between Chennai and Andhra Pradesh for a second consecutive day, with four flights cancelled as severe weather continued across the state, according to a report by Dinamalar – Tamil Nadu. Two flights from Chennai to Vijayawada and Rajahmundry, and two return services to Chennai, were cancelled.

The cancellations followed the cyclone’s landfall between Nellore and Narasapur in Andhra Pradesh. The report said heavy rain was continuing in several parts of the state, while the weather remained adverse for aviation operations. The regional weather centre has warned that heavy rain is expected to continue until November 5.

The affected services were operated from Chennai Airport to Vijayawada and Rajahmundry, with the corresponding inbound flights from Andhra Pradesh to Chennai also cancelled. The disruption affects one of the key air links between the Tamil Nadu capital and urban centres in coastal and southern Andhra Pradesh.

The latest cancellations follow a larger disruption recorded on the previous day. Eleven flights between Chennai and Andhra Pradesh were affected, including five departures from Chennai and six arrivals scheduled to land in the city, the report said.

Flight cancellations during severe weather are generally linked to operational and safety conditions at departure and arrival airports, including visibility, wind, rainfall and runway conditions. In this case, the report attributed the continued disruption to the cyclone’s impact and the prevailing poor weather in Andhra Pradesh.

Passengers travelling between Chennai, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry face the possibility of further changes while the weather warning remains in force. The supplied report did not provide details of revised schedules, passenger refund arrangements or additional cancellations beyond the four services identified for the second day.
