Coimbatore could see heavier traffic and crowd-related movement restrictions on October 4 as Chief Minister Vijay travels through the city on a changed route to Dharapuram for an by-election campaign. Police officials told Dinamalar that about 2,000 personnel will be deployed along the route because parts of the road are narrow and a large crowd is expected on the holiday.
The chief minister is scheduled to arrive in Coimbatore while travelling from the airport towards Dharapuram. Unlike the route generally used for such movements, the convoy will not proceed through Goldwins, Chinniampalayam and Neelambur to reach Avinashi Road.
Instead, arrangements have been made for the convoy to pass through several major urban areas before joining the bypass road. The planned route runs from the airport through SITRA, Kamarajapuram, Singanallur and Ondipudur, after which the convoy will continue towards Dharapuram.
The route change places the movement through a more built-up stretch of the city, according to the report. Police expect a significant gathering along the route, with the fact that October 4 is a holiday also cited as a factor that could increase crowd turnout. The presence of narrow road sections is expected to add to the traffic-management challenge.
The deployment of approximately 2,000 police personnel indicates the scale of the security and crowd-control arrangements being planned for the journey. The report does not specify whether roads will be fully closed, diverted or managed through temporary restrictions, nor does it provide a detailed traffic advisory for commuters.
The route includes airport-access roads and major built-up areas around Singanallur and Ondipudur before connecting with the bypass towards Dharapuram. Commuters using these corridors may therefore encounter security arrangements or slower movement while the convoy passes. Further operational instructions, including any specific restrictions, would need to come from the police and district administration.
