CIDCO demolished five unauthorised bamboo sheds on its plots in Kamothe, Navi Mumbai, after complaints that the structures were being erected without permission for possible commercial use. The action was carried out with police protection and the assistance of CIDCO security personnel and Maharashtra Security Force officers.
The demolition took place on Thursday across Sectors 35, 32 and 19. CIDCO’s unauthorised construction control team used excavators to remove the structures, which had been built on land owned by the planning and development authority.
The action followed complaints from residents in Kamothe who told CIDCO that bamboo sheds were being constructed on its plots and that businesses were likely to be started there. CIDCO said the complaints were taken up to prevent unauthorised construction on its land.
The operation was conducted after directions from CIDCO Chief Vigilance Officer Suresh Mengde and Chief Controller Vishal Dhage. The authority deployed its unauthorised construction control team along with security personnel and police to carry out the demolition.
In Sector 35, sheds measuring approximately 280 square metres and 240 square metres were demolished on Plot Nos. 97 and 97A, respectively. In Sector 19, the team removed a bamboo shed measuring around 800 square metres on Plot No. 13.
Two more structures were demolished in Sector 32 on Plot No. 1. They measured approximately 525 square metres and 200 square metres. Together, the five sheds covered about 2,045 square metres, based on the areas cited by CIDCO.
The action places renewed attention on how development authorities protect vacant or undeveloped plots from encroachment and informal commercial occupation. In this case, the intervention followed resident complaints and was directed specifically at structures CIDCO identified as unauthorised.
CIDCO’s latest operation was focused on removing the five identified sheds from its plots. The authority’s unauthorised construction control team carried out the demolition with police and security support.
