Chennai has recorded the highest domestic flight punctuality among India’s 10 busiest airports, according to latest aviation performance data for May. The city’s airport achieved a 92.2% on-time performance rate, placing it ahead of major aviation hubs and highlighting how operational efficiency can influence passenger experience, business mobility and regional connectivity.
The performance comes during a period of strong domestic travel growth, with more than 1.5 crore passengers flying within India in May as summer travel demand increased. For cities like Chennai, reliable air connectivity plays a growing role in supporting tourism, trade, investment movement and access to essential services. The latest data shows a significant gap between India’s leading and lagging aviation hubs. Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kochi followed Chennai in punctuality rankings, while larger metropolitan airports such as Delhi and Mumbai recorded comparatively lower performance levels. Industry experts noted that congestion, airspace pressure, weather conditions and high passenger volumes continue to influence airport efficiency.
Chennai flight punctuality has become an important indicator of how infrastructure capacity and operational planning affect urban mobility.
