Despite the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation’s initial rejection of a proposal by the UT Administration to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at paid parking lots, the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) has commenced the construction of these charging facilities. The corporation had requested additional information about the project during, causing a delay in its implementation.
The administration had directed the civic body to allocate sites at parking lots for the installation of EV charging stations. The administration’s proposal offered the municipal body a revenue-sharing model for the use of 32 parking sites in six locations for EV charging stations.
Chandigarh has been embracing electric vehicles as part of its commitment to cleaner and more sustainable transportation. The region has witnessed the establishment of several charging stations in recent months.
The Electric Vehicle policy introduced by the UT Administration last year is aimed at promoting the adoption of electric vehicles in the region. The policy, which has faced certain challenges, is set to undergo a review.
