The Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has announced plans to set up 24 electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations on six major highways in Maharashtra. These stations will initially cater to four-wheeler passenger EVs, and each customer will be charged around INR 22 per 30 minutes of use. According to Executive Director Sanjeev Agarwal, the charging stations will provide a driving range of up to 125 km in just 30 minutes. BPCL aims to convert 7,000 of its conventional retail outlets into energy stations.
The charging stations will be installed on six highways, covering a distance of 1,200 km and the distance between two stations will be set at 100 km. The highways include Pune-Ahmednagar-Aurangabad, Pune-Solapur, Pune-Nashik, Pune-Kolhapur, Mumbai-Nashik and Nashik-Shirdi. EV owners can use the charging stations via a pay-per-use online service.
BPCL is currently working on various projects to promote electric mobility and reduce carbon emissions. It has already launched EV charging stations at select fuel stations in Mumbai and Delhi. The firm aims to increase its presence in the EV charging market by adding more charging stations across the country.
The company’s Executive Director P S Ravi stated that BPCL is steadily moving towards its goal of converting its retail outlets into energy stations. The initiative is part of the firm’s comprehensive decarbonisation strategy which aims to prioritiSe sustainable initiatives. With the installation of these 24 fast-charging stations on six highways in Maharashtra, BPCL is expected to take a significant step towards promoting eco-friendly transportation in the state.
