Boisar chain-snatching case: Boisar police have arrested a man accused of fleeing after snatching a gold chain from a woman in the Khairapada area and have recovered the stolen jewellery and the scooter allegedly used in the crime.
Boisar | September 9, 2026 — The incident took place at around 10.20 am on July 18 near Eco Eden City in Khairapada. According to the police report, Rohini Rohidas Thakur and her sister, Asha Pandit Patil, both residents of Peth in Dahanu taluka, were waiting for an autorickshaw when a man riding a red-and-black scooter allegedly pulled the gold chain from Rohini Thakur’s neck and escaped.
The chain was valued at approximately Rs 70,000. A complaint was subsequently registered at Boisar police station against an unidentified person.
Taking note of the seriousness of the case, a police team was formed under the guidance of Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh. Investigators visited the scene and used technical analysis along with confidential information to trace the suspect to Navi Mumbai.
Police detained Suresh Jakhwadiya in Navi Mumbai and questioned him in connection with the case. According to the report, police said he confessed to the offence during questioning. The authorities also seized the scooter allegedly used in the crime and recovered the stolen gold chain.
The case highlights the role of location-based investigation and technical analysis in tracing suspects who allegedly travel outside the immediate area after committing street crimes.
