Delhi Airport Waterlogging Triggers FIR Against 63 Handles

New Delhi | September 9, 2026

Delhi airport operator Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has filed an FIR against 63 social media handles for allegedly circulating misleading and factually incorrect posts about waterlogging at Indira Gandhi International Airport, including an old video from Dubai airport that was presented as footage from Delhi.

DIAL said the posts falsely suggested that flooding had disrupted airport operations. In a statement, the operator said temporary water accumulation occurred at the arrival forecourt of Terminal 3 on September 4 after heavy rainfall, but the situation was resolved within 20 minutes and airport operations were not affected.

“In one of these posts, an old video of waterlogging at Dubai airport was claimed to be a video of Delhi airport,” DIAL said. The operator alleged that the circulation of misleading content appeared to be a deliberate attempt to create public mischief, damage the reputation of a public utility service and generate unwarranted concerns among passengers.

The FIR comes after heavy rain caused waterlogging at several locations around the IGI Airport area. The Dwarka underpass connecting Palam with the domestic terminal area was heavily flooded, and a Delhi Transport Corporation bus was briefly stranded there. Other buses were diverted during the disruption.

A second underpass connecting Mahipalpur, Mehrauli and Vasant Kunj was also affected. The incidents raised concerns about coordination among the agencies responsible for different stretches around the airport, including the Public Works Department, DIAL and the National Highways Authority of India.

The waterlogging issues emerged days after Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu reviewed rain-related problems with relevant agencies and called for greater coordination between departments. The review took place ahead of the BRICS Summit, increasing attention on access routes and infrastructure around the airport.

DIAL operates the national capital’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which handles more than 1,300 flight movements daily. The FIR now places the circulation of alleged misinformation alongside wider concerns over drainage, road access and responsibility across the airport’s surrounding network. Further action will depend on the Delhi Police investigation into the 63 social media handles.
