BMTC Surveys Feeder Routes for Metro’s Yellow Line

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has initiated a comprehensive survey to determine feeder bus routes for the forthcoming Yellow Line of the Namma Metro. This extension is slated to commence commercial operations by the end of the year.

BMTC officials have confirmed that the survey aims to identify optimal feeder service routes to support the new metro line. Feeder services, which are among the most utilised offerings of the BMTC, are crucial for metro commuters in the city. Recognising their importance, BMTC has decided to extend these services to the Yellow Line stretch, and a detailed route study has already been conducted. Further studies will be conducted once the Yellow Line becomes operational, ensuring the feeder services are effectively aligned with commuter needs. This proactive approach underscores BMTC’s commitment to enhancing public transportation connectivity in Bengaluru.

The Yellow Line project, originally scheduled for completion by July 2024 as per the State budget announced in February, faces delays. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials have indicated that due to a shortage of trains, the line might not be operational until the year’s end. The 18.82-kilometre Yellow Line, currently under construction, will connect R.V. Road to Bommasandra. This entirely elevated metro route encompasses 16 stations and will intersect with the Green Line at R.V. Road station and the Pink Line at Jayadeva Hospital station. The primary objective of the Yellow Line is to significantly improve connectivity to areas hosting major corporations such as Infosys and Biocon, as well as to the broader South Bengaluru region. The introduction of feeder services by BMTC is expected to facilitate seamless travel for metro users, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency and convenience of Bengaluru’s public transportation network. This initiative is particularly critical for commuters who rely on integrated transportation solutions to navigate the city’s extensive and often congested urban landscape.

The BMTC’s strategy to extend feeder services to the Yellow Line reflects a forward-thinking approach to urban mobility, aiming to provide a comprehensive and accessible transportation system for the city’s residents. As the Yellow Line nears completion, these measures will play a pivotal role in ensuring smooth and efficient transit for Bengaluru’s growing population. “This line is poised to significantly alleviate the daily challenges faced by Bengaluru’s metro commuters. Moreover, it will augment the overall metro connectivity in the city, contributing to a more convenient and efficient commuting experience. The commissioning of this line is expected to profoundly impact the lives of Bengaluru’s metro commuters, providing them with a more comfortable and efficient service. The BMTC feeder service will greatly help metro commuters by addressing first and last mile connectivity issues,” a BMRCL official said.
