BMC’s ‘Missing Link’ Project Gains Momentum in Chandivali
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has advanced its “Missing Link” road project in Chandivali by clearing major structural obstructions. This critical road connection aims to link the 60-ft Vijay Fire Marg with Jangleshwar Mandir Marg (Khairani Road), addressing a longstanding connectivity gap in the area.
Until now, residents of Chandivali have been forced to take lengthy detours via the congested Sakinaka junction to reach Ghatkopar due to the absence of a direct road. The existing alternative, a narrow road connecting Khairani Road in Naher Layout, frequently experiences heavy traffic jams, making commuting a daily challenge. During the planning phase of the project, five structures near Anandibai Surve Garden were identified as key obstacles preventing construction. After issuing demolition notices, the BMC successfully removed these structures on Thursday, clearing the way for development work to begin.
A senior civic official stated, “The removal of these encroachments was critical to progress with the road construction. Now that the path is clear, the roads department will immediately start the development work.” The “Missing Link” road is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Chandivali and Ghatkopar while decongesting key traffic bottlenecks in the area. Once complete, this new connection will offer seamless access to residents and ease vehicular movement, boosting overall infrastructure in the eastern suburbs. The project forms a vital part of the BMC’s larger infrastructure upgrade plan to improve urban mobility across Mumbai. It reflects the civic body’s commitment to addressing long-pending connectivity challenges, ensuring better road infrastructure for citizens.
