Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway Crash Kills Woman Near Mandya

A 32-year-old Bengaluru woman died after the car in which she was travelling fell from a flyover on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway near Mandya on September 18, according to police. Her husband and the driver were injured in the crash and are receiving treatment.

The accident occurred near Ummadahalli Gate, within the limits of Mandya Central Police Station. The car was travelling from Bengaluru towards Mysuru when the driver reportedly lost control because of overspeeding and hit the flyover divider, police said.

The impact sent the vehicle off the flyover and onto the underpass below. The woman, identified as Anjana, was thrown out of the car through a window and suffered serious injuries. She was travelling to Mysuru with her husband, Harish, when the crash occurred.

Anjana, described as a tech professional from Bengaluru, was taken to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital along with Harish and the driver, Nithin. She later died after treatment failed to save her, according to the report. The two other occupants sustained injuries.

Police from Mandya Central Police Station visited the crash site and inspected the scene. A case has been registered at the station, and an investigation is underway into the circumstances that led to the vehicle losing control and breaching the flyover edge.

The crash places renewed attention on the consequences of high-speed driving on an expressway designed for faster inter-city movement, although the police investigation will establish the precise cause and sequence of events. The available account does not establish whether any infrastructure defect, vehicle failure or other factor contributed to the accident.

The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway is a major road connection between the two cities, carrying regular passenger and commercial traffic through Mandya district. In this case, the incident also affected the underpass below the flyover, where the vehicle came to rest after falling from the elevated section.

The police investigation remains in progress. Further details about the case, the injuries suffered by the two surviving occupants and the findings from the site inspection are expected from Mandya Central Police Station.
