Mandya Tanker Crash Kills Three Family Members, Child Among Dead

A milk tanker hit a motorcycle from behind in Mandya district early Tuesday, killing three members of a family, including a nine-year-old girl, police said. The crash occurred between 5.30 am and 6 am within the limits of Koppa police station in Maddur taluk.

The victims were identified as Muthu, his wife Kavya and their nine-year-old daughter Kirthana. Police said Muthu and Kirthana died at the scene, while Kavya succumbed to her injuries during treatment at a hospital.

The family lived in Kanakapura taluk in Bengaluru South district and had been returning on the motorcycle after attending the Gauri Ganesha festival at Kavya’s parents’ home, according to the police account. Their other daughter, aged 12, survived the crash without major injuries, a senior police officer said.

The incident has again placed attention on the risks faced by two-wheeler users on roads shared with heavy commercial vehicles. In this case, police said the tanker struck the motorcycle from behind, but the available account does not provide details on the road conditions, traffic movement, vehicle speed or whether any additional safety violations were recorded.

Police have registered a case and begun an investigation. The authorities have not released further details about the tanker driver, the vehicle’s operator or the specific charges filed in connection with the crash. The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances leading to the collision.
