Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has implemented an advanced security system across six metro stations on the Baiyappanahalli to MG Road stretch.
This initiative marks a pivotal move in bolstering commuter safety and operational efficiency. The newly installed system integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based video analytics and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, extending surveillance beyond station interiors to encompass surrounding areas. This enhancement enables real-time monitoring and swift detection of potential security threats, facilitating prompt responses to incidents.
BMRCL Managing Director M. Maheshwar Rao highlighted the system’s capability to identify unusual behaviour and potential risks, thereby supporting better coordination during emergencies. The ANPR component records vehicle number plates near metro stations, aiding in tracking suspicious movements and assisting law enforcement efforts. Currently, this upgraded security setup operates as a pilot project at six stations. BMRCL plans to expand the technology to other parts of the metro network in the future, aiming to create a safer and more secure commuting environment for all passengers.
This development aligns with Bengaluru’s broader efforts to integrate smart technologies into urban infrastructure, enhancing safety and efficiency in public transport systems. As the city continues to grow, such initiatives are crucial in ensuring that its transit networks meet the evolving needs of its residents.
