Bengaluru traffic police have announced road closures and diversions in central Bengaluru for the 13th edition of the Bengaluru Marathon on September 27, with restrictions in place from 4 am to 11 am and around 25,000 participants expected to take part.
The arrangements fall under the jurisdiction of the Halasuru Gate Traffic Police Station and will affect several key roads connecting Kasturba Road, M.G. Road, Queens Road, Cubbon Road, Shivajinagar and the central business district.
Traffic will be restricted on Kasturba Road between Hudson Junction and Queens Junction; M.G. Road between Queens Junction and Mayo Hall Junction; and both sides of Queens Road between Queens Junction and the CTO Junction. Restrictions will also cover Lok Bhavan Road between the CTO Junction and Police Thimmaiah Circle, and B.R. Ambedkar Road between Police Thimmaiah Junction and K.R. Circle.
Other affected stretches include Cubbon Road between the CTO Junction and Manipal Junction, Dickenson Road between Halasuru Junction and Dickenson Road, Ajanta Road between Sri Circle and RBI Junction, and St John Road between Naga Junction and Sri Circle.
Police have prescribed alternate routes for vehicles travelling from J.C. Road towards Vidhana Soudha, Shivajinagar and Raj Bhavan Road. Such vehicles will be diverted through Police Corner, K.G. Road, Old Post Office Road and K.R. Circle before proceeding along the western side of Ambedkar Road.
Vehicles travelling from Queens Road and Shivajinagar towards the Market area and Majestic have been advised to use the route through Balekundri Circle, Cunningham Road, Chandrika Junction, LRDE Junction and Basaveshwara Circle.
The restrictions cover a network of roads that carries traffic between major commercial, administrative and transport destinations in central Bengaluru. Commuters using these corridors during the marathon period will therefore need to allow for diversions and possible delays, particularly during the early morning event window.
Parking facilities have been arranged for marathon participants at UB City, Freedom Park, St Joseph’s College ground, Garuda Mall and M.G. Mall. The traffic arrangements will remain in force until 11 am on September 27, according to the information reported by Prajavani.
