Bengaluru police have arrested an auto-rickshaw driver after a dispute over a cancelled ride and fare allegedly turned physical in HSR Layout, with two women from the Northeast assaulted during the confrontation, according to the police.
The accused has been identified as Chetan, 33, a resident of Parappana Agrahara. HSR Layout police took him into custody after the women lodged a complaint following the incident, which occurred on Monday afternoon.
According to the police, Chetan became involved in an argument with three women after the auto booking was cancelled three times. The disagreement reportedly continued over the ride fare before escalating into a physical confrontation. Police said the driver allegedly assaulted two of the women.
The incident took place in the HSR Layout area and was recorded by a passerby. A video showing the women and the driver arguing before the confrontation turned physical was later circulated widely on social media.
The circulation of the video brought the matter to the attention of the HSR Layout police. Based on the complaint filed by the women, the police registered a case and arrested Chetan.
