The level is not an immediate pollution emergency, but it signals that the city’s air remains under pressure even during the monsoon, when rainfall and stronger winds can temporarily improve atmospheric conditions.
The latest reading places Bengaluru above the 100-point threshold, marking a shift from the satisfactory range into moderate air quality. AQI values can vary considerably between neighbourhoods and monitoring stations, so the citywide figure should not be treated as a uniform measure of conditions across every part of Bengaluru. For residents, the change is a reminder that monsoon weather does not eliminate Bengaluru’s underlying pollution sources. Road traffic, construction activity, road dust and emissions from commercial and industrial activity continue to influence local air quality. Pollution levels can also change rapidly depending on rainfall, wind movement and traffic intensity. Road dust remains particularly relevant to Bengaluru’s urban development pattern. Construction and road expansion across the metropolitan area generate dust that can enter the atmosphere when exposed surfaces are disturbed or poorly maintained. During dry intervals between rain events, these particles can become airborne again. Traffic adds another persistent source. Bengaluru’s dependence on private vehicles has grown alongside urban expansion, with longer commuting distances placing pressure on major corridors.
