Arunachal Cabinet Clears Technical Education and Healthcare Reforms

The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet has approved a set of reforms covering technical education recruitment, women’s safety services, food-safety enforcement and healthcare staffing, with the decisions aimed at strengthening public institutions across the state.

The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, approved uniform recruitment rules for 12 categories of teaching and technical posts in government engineering and polytechnic colleges. The rules will be aligned with the All India Council for Technical Education Regulations, 2019.

The approved posts include principals, professors, associate professors, assistant professors, workshop superintendents, assistant librarians, laboratory assistants, senior technical assistants, system analysts and heads of departments. The decision is intended to bring greater uniformity and transparency to recruitment in the state’s technical education institutions.

The Cabinet also sanctioned 20 posts for implementing the Women Helpline-181 scheme under Mission Shakti. The 24-hour toll-free helpline is intended to support women in distress and connect them with services including medical care, shelter, legal aid, counselling and emotional support.

The new posts will support the operation of the helpline, which is designed to function as a link between women seeking assistance and relevant support institutions. The Cabinet’s decision adds staffing capacity to the state’s women’s support system, although the report did not specify when the posts would be filled or when the expanded service would become operational.

In another administrative decision, the Cabinet approved the creation of five Food Safety Officer posts under the Group B, Gazetted Non-Ministerial category. The posts are intended to address staff shortages and strengthen food-safety monitoring and enforcement in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Cabinet also approved an increase in grade pay for various categories of employees working under the National Leprosy Eradication Programme. According to the report, the measure is intended to ensure wage parity, improve staff morale and strengthen patient care and rehabilitation services.

The decision covers employees associated with the programme, but the Cabinet announcement as reported did not provide the revised grade-pay amounts or specify the number of staff affected. Those details will determine the immediate administrative and financial impact of the measure.

The Cabinet further approved the renaming of three educational institutions in honour of prominent personalities. Details of the institutions and their new names were not provided in the report.

Taken together, the decisions span recruitment standards, frontline support services, regulatory enforcement and employee compensation. The next stages will involve implementing the recruitment rules, filling the sanctioned posts and issuing further details on the revised grade pay and renamed institutions.
