Ahmedabad School Board Set for Leadership Vote as New Body Takes Charge

The Ahmedabad Municipal School Board will hold its first meeting of the newly constituted body on Wednesday at 11am to formally decide its chairman and deputy chairman, bringing the civic education panel to a key administrative milestone. The names of Pragnesh Patel and Ankit Rathod are being considered for the two posts, although reports of political disagreements have left open the possibility of a last-minute change.

The meeting’s main agenda is the appointment of the chairman and deputy chairman of the Ahmedabad Municipal Primary Education Committee. The leadership decision follows the completion of the process to constitute the school board, which now has 15 members.

Twelve members were declared elected unopposed, while three members were appointed by the state government. The unopposed members are Pragnesh Patel, Ankit Rathod, Navin Patel, Dr Nilay Shukla, Liladhar Khadke, Parth Trivedi, Niki Shah, Chandradipsinh Vaghela, Nitaben Prajapati, Amrut Vyas, Nandini Pandya and Sonal Patel.

Among the three government-appointed members are Ahmedabad city district education officer Rohit Chaudhary, appointed as a government member, and Chirag Solanki and Bhavanisinh Shekhावत, selected as non-government members. Their inclusion takes the committee’s total strength to 15 and enables the process for choosing its office-bearers to proceed.

Pragnesh Patel has been identified as the likely chairman and Ankit Rathod as the likely deputy chairman. However, the appointments have reportedly become the subject of political contestation in recent weeks, with allegations being raised over the selection process. The final decision is therefore expected to be known only after the meeting considers the agenda.

The school board is responsible for participating in policy and administrative decisions connected with Ahmedabad’s municipal primary education system. The newly formed body and its office-bearers are expected to play an active role in decisions concerning the functioning and administration of the civic education network.

The meeting will establish whether the names already under consideration receive formal approval or whether the committee records a change before the appointments are finalised. The outcome will determine the leadership structure of Ahmedabad’s municipal school board as the new body begins its term.
