Gujarat Heat Keeps Winter Away as Ahmedabad Hits 38°C

Gujarat is continuing to experience unusually high October temperatures, with more than nine cities recording readings above 38°C and the arrival of cooler conditions delayed across the state. Rajkot recorded the highest temperature at 40.6°C in the last 24 hours, while Ahmedabad reached 38.01°C, according to a report by Sandesh – Ahmedabad.

Bhuj recorded 39°C, while Naliya in Kutch, which typically records some of Gujarat’s lowest temperatures, registered 38.6°C. The readings have come even after Navratri, a period when cooler mornings and nights usually begin to be felt in the state.

The continuing heat and humidity have increased discomfort for residents, particularly in cities where dense construction, paved surfaces and outdoor activity can intensify the experience of high temperatures. The report said the cold has not yet made its expected seasonal appearance, with several parts of Gujarat continuing to face hot conditions instead.

The weather department attributed the delayed onset of winter conditions to the late withdrawal of the monsoon and the continued presence of moisture in the atmosphere. According to the explanation cited in the report, moisture in the land and air is contributing to higher maximum temperatures and a more humid, oppressive environment.

The forecast indicates that temperatures are likely to remain broadly unchanged in Gujarat over the coming days. Weather conditions are expected to remain dry for the next seven days, meaning there are no immediate signs of a significant fall in temperature.

Light rain is possible at isolated locations in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Narmada and Tapi on Wednesday. The report said cooler nights may begin towards the end of October or during the first week of November as colder conditions develop over north India. The weather department is expected to continue monitoring temperature and rainfall patterns across the state.
