Delhi Sees Sunny Skies High Temperatures Severe Air Pollution Health Advisory Issued

New Delhi is experiencing clear skies and mild temperatures on December 12, 2025, but persistent air pollution continues to pose health risks for residents. While the city enjoys a maximum temperature of 24.8°C and a low of 15.9°C, air quality remains in the ‘poor’ to ‘severe’ category, prompting advisories for mask usage and reduced outdoor exposure.

According to data from AQI.in, yesterday’s air quality index (AQI) peaked at 341, a level classified as severe. PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations were recorded at 191 µg/m³ and 242 µg/m³ respectively, well above safe limits. Carbon monoxide levels also registered high, adding to the hazardous atmospheric conditions. Health authorities caution vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and people with respiratory illnesses, to minimise outdoor activity. “The current pollution levels in the city highlight the urgent need for sustainable urban planning and strict emissions controls,” said an urban health official. Despite clear skies and low humidity at 19%, the pollution persists due to vehicle emissions, construction dust, and residual particulate matter from previous days.

Morning temperatures around 16°C offer an optimal window for outdoor exercise, while afternoons rise to a comfortable 24.8°C under sunny skies. Gentle winds at 6.5 km/h may help disperse some pollutants, but residents are advised to limit prolonged exposure. Sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended during peak sunlight hours, and light jackets will provide comfort during cooler evenings. Looking ahead, New Delhi’s weather is expected to remain stable, with a slight rise in temperatures over the coming week. December 13 will see partly cloudy conditions with highs of 25.1°C, followed by overcast skies on December 14 with temperatures reaching 25.4°C. The weekend promises sunny conditions, with December 15 and 16 experiencing highs of 26.9°C and 26.7°C respectively, and winds increasing slightly to 19.8 km/h on December 16.

Experts emphasise that while pleasant weather supports outdoor activities, the city must remain vigilant regarding air quality. Solutions such as indoor air purifiers, low-emission transport, and stricter construction regulations are critical to making Delhi’s urban environment safer and more sustainable. As New Delhi navigates winter, the dual challenge of maintaining livable weather and improving air quality underscores the broader imperative for cities to adopt zero-carbon, inclusive, and environmentally responsible policies.
