Punjab Govt Announces Hundred Crore Infrastructure Push To Modernise Industrial Estates

Punjab has embarked on an ambitious ₹100 crore infrastructure initiative aimed at strengthening the state’s industrial ecosystem, placing Ludhiana at the forefront of this transformative drive. The state government’s plan seeks to modernise industrial estates, enhance connectivity, and provide critical support to MSMEs and exporters, signalling a renewed focus on sustainable economic growth.

The Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) has earmarked ₹100 crore for upgrades across key industrial focal points in the state. Of this, tenders worth ₹70 crore have already been issued, with the remaining ₹30 crore in advanced stages of approval. These funds are set to improve essential infrastructure such as roads, lighting, sewerage, and other facilities that form the backbone of thriving industrial hubs. Ludhiana, recognised as Punjab’s industrial nerve centre, will see a significant portion of this investment, with ₹55 crore allocated locally to strengthen municipal infrastructure. The upgrades are expected to improve operational efficiency for businesses, reduce logistical bottlenecks, and enhance the overall business climate.

In a strategic move to further enhance trade and innovation, the state government has announced plans to establish three world-class exhibition centres in Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Mohali. These centres will host trade fairs, innovation showcases, and industrial exhibitions, providing MSMEs and exporters with a platform to expand their market reach and collaborate with global partners. Land for the Mohali centre has been finalised, while suitable sites in Ludhiana and Amritsar are under review. The initiative also includes the creation of an independent authority to oversee the maintenance of infrastructure across all industrial estates and focal points in Punjab. This authority aims to address persistent challenges related to basic amenities, thereby ensuring long-term sustainability and operational efficiency. A global consultancy firm is assisting in developing the framework for this authority, with implementation expected in the near future.

The state government engaged industry stakeholders through high-level consultations, incorporating feedback from entrepreneurs across Ludhiana, Moga, Sangrur, and Fatehgarh Sahib. These discussions focused on aligning infrastructure development with the operational needs of businesses, ensuring that investments deliver tangible benefits and support equitable industrial growth. With this comprehensive ₹100 crore push, Punjab aims not only to modernise its industrial landscape but also to create an eco-friendly, sustainable, and business-conducive environment. The focus on MSMEs, infrastructure parity, and trade facilitation marks a significant step towards positioning the state as a competitive industrial hub on the national map.
