The East Singhbhum district administration has designated 12 open spaces in Jamshedpur for the regulated sale of firecrackers from November 6 to 8, issuing temporary trade licences to 432 shops ahead of Diwali. Daltonganj has separately approved 44 licensed outlets at Shivajee Maidan for the festival period.
The largest authorised cluster in Jamshedpur will be at Sakchi Aam Bagan, which has been allotted 110 shops. Kadma Gandhi Maidan will have 72 outlets, while 48 have been approved at Jugsalai RP Patel High School. Other notified locations include Baridih Durga Puja Maidan, Bistupur Club House, Telco M-Type, Burmamines Durga Puja Maidan, Mango Gandhi Maidan, Sonari Ram Mandir Maidan, Sidhgora Gadda Maidan, Golmuri Circus Maidan and Bhalubasa Harijan High School.
The administration said traders must comply with norms of the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board, including the prohibition on firecrackers generating noise above 125 decibels. Each shop will be allowed to stock a maximum of 25 kg of firecrackers. High-decibel and illegal products will not be permitted, and violations can attract action under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act.
Arnav Mishra, sub-divisional officer of Dhalbhum, said licences would be cancelled immediately if traders violated the rules. Sales in crowded areas and residential colonies will not be allowed, according to the administration. The notified sites are required to keep fire extinguishers, sand buckets and water available, while fire tenders will be stationed near the vending zones.
The district administration has also started steps to remove 23 unauthorised firecracker shops operating from Jugsalai Municipal Park. The action is intended to shift sales away from an unapproved location and towards designated spaces where fire and pollution controls can be monitored.
In Daltonganj, 44 licensed outlets have been approved for Diwali 2026, compared with 35 last year. The shops have been allotted space at Shivajee Maidan and must follow the safety protocols prescribed by the pollution control board. Sadar SDO Sanjay Pandey has directed police stations to monitor unlicensed and hazardous sales.
Online trading in firecrackers and their transportation through India Post, courier services or e-commerce platforms are prohibited. The report also said buyers continued to show limited interest in CSIR-NEERI green firecrackers, with louder varieties remaining more popular among consumers.
Civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar Sriwastwa advised residents to wash burn injuries with cold water, avoid applying edible oil and not prick blisters at home. The authorised sales period in Jamshedpur will run through November 8, with enforcement focused on licensed locations, stock limits and compliance with noise and safety rules.
